Putin’s New Nuclear Submarine Will Be Part of the Pacific Fleet

The Russian Defense Ministry says a new nuclear reactor-powered submarine has been tested. It should be used soon.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the test was successful. The “Generalissimus Suvorov” fired an intercontinental ballistic missile that can be equipped with nuclear warheads. It was tested with a dummy payload – instead of a warhead.

Hit the training ground

It is a test of a Bulava missile (NATO code: SS-N-32). This was fired from the Weissmeer on the Barents Sea. At least that is what the ministry in Moscow announced on Thursday, according to the Russian state news agency Tass.

The missile’s flight was normal until it hit a training ground at the far east of the Kamchatka Peninsula. The submarine should therefore be included in the inventory of the Russian Pacific Fleet.

State-of-the-art technology

The “Generalissimus Suvorov” is the second submarine of the so-called Borei-A class to be built. According to Moscow, it is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation, radio, sonar, missile and torpedo weapon systems.

The exercise comes at a time when there is massive speculation about the use of atomic bombs. Russian President Vladimir Putin (70) delivered two speeches in September in which he indicated that he would use nuclear weapons if necessary.

This to defend Russia in its war in Ukraine. Recently, however, Putin came back and said that using nuclear weapons in Ukraine would make no sense. (EU)
