First edition of US constitution could raise millions at auction After terrorist attack in Somalia, the number of victims continues to rise

An extremely rare first edition of the United States Constitution, passed in 1787, could fetch about $30 million at auction in New York.

Auction house Sotheby’s announced on Tuesday that the document should be auctioned in December. Previously, it had not been offered for auction for about 125 years.

According to Sotheby’s, it is one of only 13 known editions of the officially printed first edition of the “United States Constitution” distributed to delegates to the constitutional convention. Eleven of these are in public collections. The only other privately owned book sold at auction in New York last year for $43.2 million — a record price for an auction of any book, manuscript, or printed text.
