U.S. Secret Service plans to hand over a classified document on the background of a large number of UFO sightings to Congress on Monday in Washington. The paper aims to reduce previously unexplained incidents to ordinary, albeit explosive, statements. The New York Times reports, citing anonymous officials familiar with the report’s findings and investigations from the Pentagon and intelligence agencies.
Time and again people report seeing unknown flying objects – UFOs for short – in the sky. Several pilots recently reported dazzling lights over the Pacific circling at extreme altitudes. The UFO sightings have been confusing US government agencies for years — and fuel some profound theories about alien visits.
Last year, the US Department of Defense released a report on 144 sightings of “unidentified aerial phenomena”. Nearly all incidents remained unexplained at this point. According to last year’s report by the “New York Times,” the classified document announced Monday must now be updated.
The most explosive result: Some phenomena are said to be traced to Chinese military espionage. According to the officials, several alleged UFOs were relatively common drone technology that China is using to learn about the training of US fighter pilots. A connection to Beijing is also suspected for other UFO sightings.
The Pentagon announced in May that previously released images of green triangles could be explained by surveillance efforts. The missiles, which looked like alien ships, were drones photographed through night vision goggles.
According to the report, most information about supposedly unidentified flying objects remains secret. While Congress will be notified of potential state espionage attempts, the details have not been made public. The US Department of Defense wants to prevent China or other countries from finding out that their espionage attempts have come to light.
According to the report, common explanations for other UFO sightings have also been found. According to a US military analysis, a video known as “GoFast,” which appears to show a missile traveling at a seemingly immense speed, is an optical illusion caused by the angle of view. In fact, the object is only moving at a speed of about 30 miles per hour. Other sightings are just weather balloons.
However, many incidents remain unexplained. There was often a lack of data to find reliable explanations for mysterious UFO sightings. “In many cases, observed phenomena are classified as ‘unidentified’ because the sensors were not able to collect enough information to issue a definitive command,” a U.S. Department of Defense spokeswoman told the New York Times.
