Russian banker and entrepreneur Oleg Tinkov has renounced his Russian citizenship because of Moscow’s war of aggression in Ukraine. He made this decision because he “could not and did not want to be associated with a fascist country” that “started a war with its peaceful neighbor” and kills innocent people every day, Tinkow wrote on Instagram on Monday.

“It is a shame for me to continue to have this passport.” The 54-year-old shared a photo of a document confirming the “end” of his Russian citizenship.

He hopes more prominent Russian businessmen will follow him, Tinkov wrote, “so that Putin’s regime and economy can be weakened and he can ultimately be defeated.” He “hates Putin’s Russia”, but “loves all Russians who are clearly against this insane war”.

The dazzling billionaire and founder of the online bank Tinkoff, who in 2021 had to pay half a billion dollars in fines in the US for tax evasion, is one of the best-known Russian entrepreneurs.
