This is where drone boats attack Russian warships Plastic waste worries the Swiss population – especially in the sea

The last thing the camera films is a close-up of Admiral Makarov’s starboard side. Then the video stops.

In another scene, a helicopter shoots at a moving boat, presumably an unmanned naval drone. Then a vehicle of the same type comes close to passing a fishing boat.

A crew member of the boat seems to want to save himself by jumping into the sea. They are dramatic scenes.

The videos are part of a series currently circulating on social media platforms believed to show the attack on the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. These are so-called FPV videos. FPV stands for “First Person View”: viewers take in the perspective of the remote-controlled object. Of course, with such videos, the signals break if the carrier and camera are destroyed.

The recordings were published by Ukrainian journalist Andriy Tsaplienko, among others. Their authenticity is not assured. However, there are certain indications that support this. The collective of volunteers specialized in geolocation “GeoConfirmed” found several overlaps in different sources. The helicopter mentioned, for example, also appears in videos shot from the mainland. You can watch him shoot at an object in the water – and destroy it too. Access to these cameras on the mainland was later blocked by the Russian authorities.

The collective also managed to clearly identify the frigate Makarov and locate detonations in and around the port of Sevastopol. The extent of the damage caused remains open.

In September, Russian military bloggers discussed a USV (Unmanned Surface Vessel) washed up near Sevastopol. The parts of the vehicle are also readily available to civilians. For example, the propulsion comes from the Canadian jet ski manufacturer Sea-Doo. At least the bow of the boat looks similar to the one in recent videos.

One to three warships were damaged in the attacks on Russia’s Black Sea Fleet on Saturday, according to the source. According to Russian information, nine air and seven naval drones were used. The attack was successfully repulsed, all drones were shot down. Only the minesweeper Ivan Golubez was slightly damaged, Sevastopol governor Mikhail Rasvosschaev, installed by Russia in the occupied territory, reports on his Telegram channel.

Ukrainian officials have not yet responded to the attack.
