Police clean up illegal rave with thousands of techno fans

An illegal techno party has been going on in the northern Italian city of Modena since Saturday. Thousands of revelers gathered in an empty factory hall on the outskirts of town and celebrated like crazy.

On Monday morning, the authorities threw a spanner in the works for the partygoers: as reported by various media, 300 police officers approached the abandoned site on Monday morning and cleaned the rave.

Live recordings on the internet showed the ravers removing technical equipment from the building or dismantling tents. At the start of the peaceful eviction, some ravers are said to have barricaded themselves inside – initially wanting to continue partying.

The bash should have lasted until Tuesday

Organizers say the Halloween party, which at times numbered more than 3,500 guests, was reported to last until Tuesday. The police therefore persuaded the revelers to cancel the event and also took the personal details of hundreds of revelers.

Already over the weekend, the illegal rave caused discontent among the new right-wing government in Rome. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi therefore ordered the police operation. In Italy, major illegal rave parties continue to make headlines.

The right-wing ruling parties want to stop the celebrations and plan to discuss new rules in the Council of Ministers on Monday. Right-wing Lega party leader and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini welcomed the expulsion: “The beautiful life is over,” he tweeted. (SDA)
