At least 11 people were killed at a concert in a stadium in the Congolese capital Kinshasa. According to authorities, the victims were crushed in the crowd; There were many more people in attendance than the 80,000 on which the stadium is built.
What exactly happened in the Stade des Martyrs is still unclear. Panic is said to have broken out during a concert by the immensely popular African pop star Fally Ipupa.
Earlier in the day, security forces fired tear gas to disperse crowds of fans outside the stadium. According to the authorities, there was violence among those present, but details are missing.
Two police officers are among the dead. The Interior Ministry blames the organizers of the event for the drama. As far as is known, they have not yet commented on the allegations.
