61 police officers injured in protest action in France

61 police officers were injured in a demonstration in western France. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin tweeted that 22 of them were seriously injured. 30 demonstrators were also injured.

Several thousand demonstrators demonstrated in the town of Sainte-Soline against the construction of a huge water reservoir for agriculture. Hundreds of masked militants took part in the protest. The protest ended in a skirmish with the security forces, who were pelted with Molotov cocktails, among other things.

According to Darmanin, this shows that it was not a peaceful demonstration, but “a very violent demonstration”. Six people were arrested.

Saint-Soline is the second of 16 basins built by a group of 400 farmers for agricultural irrigation in the Deux-Sèvres region.
