Biden confirmed to US media that it appears the intruder was indeed targeting Nancy Pelosi, who was not at home at the time. He again called for such violence against representatives of the people to be condemned.
Paul Pelosi, whose wife has been threatened on social media for years, suffered a fractured skull and injuries to an arm and both hands.
David DePape, 42, has been arrested by police for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on an elderly person and a variety of other minor offenses.
According to American media, DePape is someone with a penchant for far-right conspiracy theories.
