Biden after attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband: “Stand up against violence in politics”

US President Joe Biden has called the attack on Democratic politician Nancy Pelosis’s husband despicable. Paul Pelosi, 82, was attacked at his home and his wife’s in San Francisco last night (US time). He suffered a fractured skull and injuries to his right arm and hands.

A spokesman for Nancy Pelosi said the man who assaulted Paul Pelosi was looking for Nancy. “Paul Pelosi was attacked at his home by an attacker who acted violently and threatened his life while demanding to speak to Nancy Pelosi,” her rep wrote.

‘Enough is enough’

American media also reported, based on sources surrounding the investigation, that the intruder was looking for Nancy Pelosi. He reportedly yelled “Where’s Nancy, where’s Nancy”. Biden also says the perpetrator was likely looking for the Democratic politician “based on sources.”

“Enough is enough,” the president said at a rally in Philadelphia. “Everyone should stand up clearly and unequivocally against violence in our politics in good conscience, no matter which political ideology they belong to.”

Officials saw the man hit Paul Pelosi with a hammer, it was revealed at a news conference:

Intruder at the home of American politician Nancy Pelosi

David DePape, 42, broke into the Pelosis’ home in San Francisco around 2 a.m. local time last night. Paul Pelosi called 911 and the police showed up within minutes. Officers arrested the man, but by that time he had already wounded Pelosi with a hammer.

The man is being held in custody on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on an elderly person and a series of other minor offences, Police Commissioner William Scott said. He has already been questioned, but the police have not yet released any information about his motives.

Police said he suffered “several minor injuries.” It is unclear whether this happened during or before his arrest.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, DePape was someone with a penchant for far-right conspiracy theories and an obsession with government agencies that would keep tabs on citizens.

Facebook has since taken DePape’s account offline, two family members confirmed to CNN. They also said that he was no longer in contact with his family. Former acquaintances told CNN that DePape’s behavior has become increasingly disturbing over the years.

According to a woman who met him eight years ago, he struggled with drug use and lived in a storage room. He would have lost touch with reality. She felt it was dangerous to hang out with him any longer and broke off contact.

CNN saw posts from DePape’s now-deleted pages on Facebook. It didn’t mention Pelosi’s name anywhere. However, it featured videos of a Republican politician and businessman claiming that Trump was the true winner of the 2020 election and that Biden’s camp committed fraud. DePape may also have posted links to sites claiming that coronavirus vaccines are deadly.
