Netanyahu admits attack on ‘innocent’ aid workers in Gaza Donald Trump triumphs: how the ex-president increases his money

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has admitted that an “accidental” Israeli attack killed “innocent people” in the Gaza Strip.

Seven employees of the aid organization World Central Kitchen were killed in an attack on a convoy. The victims included a dual US-Canadian citizen, at least one Palestinian worker and people from Australia, Poland and the United Kingdom.

In a video message in Hebrew he said:

“Unfortunately, in the past 24 hours, a tragic case occurred where our forces unintentionally hit innocent people in the Gaza Strip.”

He adds that something like this happens in a war: “we are watching it until the end, we are in contact with the governments and we will do everything we can to ensure that something like this does not happen again.”

Accusation of “targeted attack”

Erin Gore, CEO of World Central Kitchen, spoke to the Washington Post about a “targeted attack” by the Israeli forces. The non-profit food aid organization has been significantly involved in aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip to date and has worked with Israeli authorities:

“Although the movements were coordinated with the Israeli army, the convoy was hit as it left the Deir al-Balah warehouse. The team had unloaded more than 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought by sea to Gaza.”

Moreover, the helpers were in a “conflict-free zone,” Gore said. And at least two cars in the convoy were marked with the World Central Kitchen logo.

A statement on World Central Kitchen’s website said it would suspend operations in Gaza with immediate effect. It goes on to say:

“This is not just an attack against us, it is an attack on humanitarian organizations that operate in the worst situations where food is used as a weapon of war. This is inexcusable.”
