Man taken by police in New Jersey: Swiss plane must return because of an abusive passenger

The passengers of Swiss flight LX19 from Newark Airport, New Jersey, actually wanted to travel back to Zurich in peace on Sunday evening.

But nothing came of the comfortable return flight. Due to an abusive passenger on board, the crew was forced to return shortly after takeoff and depart again for New Jersey.

Passengers suddenly heard a loud scream

“During the flight we suddenly heard a loud scream,” a passenger who witnessed the scene firsthand wrote on the social network Reddit. After the scream, the flight crew immediately ran to the front of the aircraft.

“Shortly afterwards the pilot called and said that unfortunately we had to turn back because a passenger was not following the rules.”

When the plane landed again a little later, according to the user, several police cars were already waiting there. “The pilot also informed us that the flight was canceled because the crew could not fly in such conditions.”

However, the user does not know what exactly happened. The passengers received no explanation from the cabin crew.

When Blick asked Swiss, they said: “I can confirm so far that the plane had to turn back due to an unruly passenger on board,” said Swiss media spokeswoman Silvia Exer-Kuhn. The man insulted the crew.

Exer-Kuhn cannot currently say what exactly led to the incident. However, the man has now been taken into custody by the police in Newark.

The passengers affected by the flight cancellation are currently still in Newark, where they will be taken to Zurich on the next possible flight.
