Boluarte asks the Prosecutor’s Office to take a statement immediately

President of PeruDina Boluartehe requested this Sunday that the Prosecutor’s Office take a statement from him “Immediately” considering the “political turbulence” produced by the preliminary investigation against him for corruption, related to the purchase of undeclared luxury watches.

“I am going to your office to request that my statement be taken immediately in the investigation in order to clarify the facts of the investigation as soon as possible,” reads the message that Boluarte sent to the prosecutor’s office through his lawyers.

The president intended to go to the public ministry this Friday, April 5, to make a statement, but after the tax team searched her home and the Government Palace this Saturday, the president asked for an advance.

In a letter addressed to state prosecutor Juan Carlos Villena, he is asked to cancel this initial program for next Friday.

“Given the political turbulence that is happening because of the various procedures that his office has been carrying out,” he justified.

Boluarte was supposed to show her public ministry classes last Tuesday and give her testimony last Wednesday, but she asked for both dates to be postponed due to her “busy schedule,” so she didn’t attend either of them.

This led to a search of his home, where the operation broke out the lock on the door and the Government Palace.

The president stated that this search was carried out in an arbitrary, offensive and disproportionate manner and that she is cooperating with the investigation.

“There was never, as said, any refusal or rebellion on my part in the tax investigation, on the contrary, I appeared at this instance making myself available, so the early morning measure is arbitrary, disproportionate and insulting,” said the president together with his cabinet in a statement.

A few hours after his words, and in a statement published on social networks shortly before midnight, the Ministry specified that the operation was carried out “by order of the Supreme Preparatory Investigation Court of the Supreme Court” and therefore ruled out that the intervention “was illegitimate, unconstitutional and offensive”.

He also explained that in the operation “the delivery of the Rolex watches by the President of the Republic has not been located or taken place, despite being requested to do so,” but he obtained other elements of interest for the investigation.
