On Wednesday, little Camila (†8) disappeared while on her way to neighbors – that same evening she was found dead in a street on the outskirts of the city. According to media reports, surveillance video shows a woman recently placing a bundle in the trunk of a taxi. It is believed that this is how she made the body disappear.

Camila was allegedly raped and then suffocated. Her family demanded the woman’s immediate arrest, but authorities did nothing. The outrage of city residents then turned to violence: an angry crowd formed around the alleged killer’s home, Mexican media reported.

She must be brought to safety

The possible suspect was then arrested by the police on Thursday and taken to safety. Her partner, who allegedly raped the girl, was arrested early in the morning. She was driven around town in the back of a pickup truck – which was her death sentence.

The angry crowd dragged the woman out of the car by her hair and beat her. Covered in blood, the suspected killer lay on the ground, surrounded by a crowd of people who continued to kick her and filmed the violent act on their mobile phones. The police did not intervene, but just watched. Two men were also attacked; they are said to be the sons of the woman who was lynched. The two are now in a hospital, but their condition is stable, Secretary of State Francisco Rodríguez said.

Woman died in an administrative office

Only when a funeral procession for Camila turned onto the violent crime street did the attackers stop kicking the motionless woman. On video footage you can hear those present shouting: “The girl’s car is coming and taking her away, out of respect!” The police then led them away from the blood-stained street.

As a result of her serious injuries, she died in public administration, where she was transferred to a hospital. Taxco Mayor Mario Figueroa said only that the police officers were not doctors. They would not be responsible for knowing the health status of a person. The angry mob made themselves murder suspects. The Public Prosecution Service has announced an investigation.

The crime took place a few hours before the carnival parade

Local primary school teacher Felipa Lagunas was shocked: “I never thought we would experience a lynching in a tourist town like Taxco.” What particularly concerned them: the violent act took place just a few hours before the annual Carnival parade, which has been a tradition in the city for centuries and attracts thousands of tourists.

“I thought it would be something far away, in places far away from civilization,” Lagunas continues. “I never thought my community would experience this on such a special day.” During the procession, hooded men beat themselves and carry blackberry bushes through the city to commemorate the suffering of Jesus.
