Minister of Justice and Human Rights of Peru, Eduardo Aranahe stated this Saturday that the invasion of the president’s home, Dina Boluarteand the Government Palace, as part of the preliminary tax investigation, shows the cracks in the democratic system and constitutionality.
“What they are doing is politicizing and showing that the judiciary has been politicized in an unprecedented event that attacks democratic institutions, the institutions of the Presidency, and above all, testifies to the collapse of the democratic system and constitutionality,” asserted Arana, president of the association Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén.
Arana explained that more than 20 police officers and 20 prosecutors appeared at Boluarte’s home and the Government Palace during the raid and that this was in response to a “disproportionate, unconstitutional and illegal measure”.
On Friday around midnight, a team of prosecutors and police officers broke into Boluarte’s home for five hoursand then on Saturday at dawn they did the same in the Government Palace, as part of the preliminary investigation opened on March 18 against the president for allegedly committing the crime of illicit enrichment.
For his part, Adrianzén also declared that the raid was “unconstitutional and disproportionate” and denied that the president would resign.
He said there is no presidential responsibility for the alleged commission of the crimes under investigation.
“The political noise that is being raised is serious, it affects investments and the whole country. What happened in the last few hours are disproportionate and unconstitutional actions,” Adrianzén indicated shortly before that on the X social network.
He added that Boluarte would make statements to the prosecutor’s office when she was summoned and noted that the president had asked for a delay and, “strangely, it was not accepted,” but that she was continuing to cooperate with the investigation.
He further pointed out that Cabinet ministers express solidarity with the president and “strongly reject these destabilizing political actions, which are hidden in questionable jurisdiction provisions and confirm the politicization of the judiciary”.
He ended by calling on political and social forces “to follow the constitutional order”.
“The president and the government are determined to continue working on economic recovery and security. This is a priority. No one thought about resigning because of this disproportionate action,” he said.
Boluarte’s house was searched this Friday around midnight by a team of prosecutors and agents of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) as part of a preliminary investigation opened against the ruler for the alleged commission of crimes illicit enrichment.
The plaintiffs carried out the action for the purpose of registration and confiscation of luxury watches which, according to local media, Boluarte used in various public activities and allegedly did not declare as part of his property.
And five hours later, early on Saturday morning, they also raided government palacewhere they still remain.
