In an interview with RTL, doctor Christian Dumpies reveals new details about the bus crash in Leipzig. The doctor works in the nearby emergency center of the Halle Bergmannstrost clinic.
Dumpies: “The patients told us a lot that they were sleeping, that they were napping. And suddenly the bus left the road, drove to the right down an embankment and then there was a big mess.” There would have been chaos in the bus, with people falling on each other.
Many accident victims stay in the hospital overnight
Dumpies revealed that many of those killed had burns caused by seat belts or carpets on the floor of the bus. The prisoners tried to hold on. The burns were then caused by friction.
The ‘mass incident’ is not an everyday occurrence in the hospital, Dumpies emphasizes. “Today will certainly remain a memorable day for many employees.” Many patients will likely have to spend the night in the hospital.
