A daycare center should be a place where children feel particularly comfortable. There, children must learn to play with others in a protected environment and show each other respect. In a German daycare center in a district of Cologne, the exact opposite is the case: instead of friendly interaction, there is a climate of fear.

Because a problem family terrorized the institution’s staff for months, the employees all reported sick at the end of February. This was first reported by the “Kölner Stadtanzeiger”. The family is said to have spit on people, insulted them or even threatened them.

Parents were annoyed

Now the city of Cologne has pulled the string: a security service has been called in to regulate access to the daycare center. The affected family has now been banned from the facility.

A mother told the “Kölner Stadtanzeiger” that the city lacked communication. She told the newspaper that the daycare center suddenly closed at the end of February. “There was no one there, there was no information for us parents.” She eventually became aware of the collective sick note through youth care. The presence of the security service was announced for the following week. The mother was very irritated by this, she explains. She only heard about the problem family from the staff.

“Such facilities must be better protected”

According to the report, some parents had already become aware of the fact that there had been repeated escalations at the daycare center. That is why you previously requested a security service. Although the mother only learned what had happened later, she can hardly believe that action had not been taken sooner. “Facilities such as kindergartens and the people who work there must be better protected,” she says indignantly.

According to the report, investigations into several criminal complaints, including threats, are still ongoing. The daycare center “Von Sparr-Strasse” cares for 85 children. (An)
