On Friday evening, masked men stormed the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Moscow, shot at visitors and then set the hall on fire. As the Russian newspaper “Meduza” reports, according to current information, approximately 133 people have been killed, and the number is still rising. The jihadist militia Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack shortly afterwards. According to Russian sources, the former winner of the Miss Tver pageant is among the victims. The 42-year-old was born in the city of Sovetskaya Gavan, went to school in Tver and studied at the law faculty of the state university there. In 2001, Ekaterina won the Miss Tver beauty contest and recently lived in Moscow. She is survived by her husband, a daughter and a son.
Alexey was a player in the amateur Night Hockey League in Yaroslavl. The entire hockey team expresses its condolences to the family left behind. According to “Meduza,” the 39-year-old leaves behind two small children. Rudnitsky is said to have celebrated his birthday a few days earlier: on March 16.
Irina was a history teacher at the Moscow Institute of Film and Television (GITR). Previously, she worked at the State Pedagogical University in Saransk. The deputy rector of the Moscow Film and Television Institute told Russian media that Irina Firsova was a “patriotic and very intelligent” person. She was loved and respected by her students.
Tatiana Pikhnovskaya, girlfriend of Irina Firsova, worked as a deputy department director of the Central Bank. She and her childhood friend Irina hid in the toilets, where Tatiana would have had brief contact with her husband. Both women eventually suffocated from smoke from the fire set by the killers, as ‘Meduza’ reports.
The 51-year-old was a drilling specialist and a big fan of the band Piknik, which was due to play the Moscow concert hall on March 22. He flew to Moscow especially to see the band, his son Maxim reported to the Russian television channel RT. Before the concert started and the attack took place, Alexander allegedly sent his son a video recording from the concert hall.
Dmitri Schershnew worked as a lighting technician in the town hall and in the concert hall. At the time of the attack he was at his workplace in the gallery. Due to a knee injury, he was unable to leave the gallery quickly enough before the flames reached it, reports ‘Meduza’. He is survived by his wife and his mother, father and grandmother.
Konstantin Taletsky was an employee of the Ministry of Justice. He and his wife had attended the Piknik concert together and his wife was taken to intensive care with serious injuries. In addition to his wife, the 51-year-old is survived by two children, aged 13 and 20.
