Peru is increasing the capacity of Machu Picchu for Holy Week

The capacity of Machu Picchu will increase tremendously during the Holy Week holidays and visitors will be offered an additional 500 daily tickets from March 28 to 31, the Ministry of Culture of Peru reported this Friday.

“The Ministry of Culture has approved, exceptionally, an increase in the capacity of Machupicchu llaqta, from 4,500 to 5,000 people per day, during Holy Week, between March 28, 29, 30 and 31, 2024,” he pointed out. that portfolio through a press release, after announcing that tickets for these days were sold out a few weeks ago.

He added that from next Monday, until supplies last, they will be available on the virtual platform tubeleto.cultura.pe.

The Ministry specified that it is a pilot plan aimed at assessing the so-called of “dynamic capacity” that will be applied in the coming months.

And reminded that visitors will be able to buy tickets in person at the Machu Picchu Cultural Center, where 1,000 daily tickets are available to enter the Inca citadel the next day.

He added that conservation work and the installation of video surveillance cameras are currently being carried out, which will allow greater control of visitors.

The rate for Peruvian tourists and tourists from the Andean Community (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia) is 64 soles ($17) for adults and 32 soles for students and minors between 3 and 17 years old.

Meanwhile, the general price for foreign visitors is 152 soles for adults, ($41) 77 soles for higher education students and 70 soles for minors between 3 and 17 years old.

On February 17, the Minister of Culture of Peru, Leslie Urteaga, announced that the daily capacity of Machu Picchu will increase from 4,100 people to 5,600 from June 1 to October 15 and also some holidays, which means an increase of 36.5%.

“This is the first time that we are reaching agreements with the great interest of the Machu Picchu Management Unit (UGM), so that we can improve services (…) We are convinced that dynamic capacity could be a positive solution,” Urteaga pointed out through a ministry statement.

The minister, who was questioned in Congress last week, announced this measure after a meeting in the Machu Picchu district with the Board of Directors of the UGM, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Madeleine Burns, and regional and local authorities, such as the regional governor of Cuzco, Werner Salcedo and the mayor of Machu Picchu.
