There has been war in the Gaza Strip since the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Tens of thousands of people have already died and countless people have had to leave their homes. And what thought comes to mind for Jared Kushner (43), the son-in-law and former advisor of Donald Trump (77)? The former real estate trader mainly thinks about construction: “Riverside properties in Gaza could be very valuable – if people would concentrate on building their livelihoods,” says the husband of Ivanka Trump (42) in an interview at the renowned Harvard University at the beginning of March in Massachusetts.

His comments give an idea of what kind of Middle East policy would be pursued if Trump were re-elected, writes ‘The Guardian’. In fact, Kushner offers no peace plan and skillfully avoids the most important question: what does the future of the Palestinians look like?

Instead, he puts it this way: “It’s a somewhat unfortunate situation there, but from an Israeli perspective I would do my best to get the people out and then clean up.” He also complained to his interviewee Tarek Masoud, chairman of the Middle East Faculty, about all the money going to the tunnel network and munitions in the area, instead of education and innovation.

“Would reward an act of terror”

To the former presidential advisor, it seems clear that Israel would be better off moving the population of Gaza to the Negev Desert in southern Israel. If he were in charge of Israel, he would take the civilians out of the southern city of Rafah and bring them to Egypt “through diplomacy.” “I think the right step now would be to open the Negev, create a safe area there, send the civilians out and then go in and finish the job.”

Masoud is also surprised by Kushner’s statements and asks: “Is that something they talk about in Israel?” the university professor asked. Kushner was the second person, after the Egyptian president, he heard talk about this possibility. Kushner simply responds, “I’m sitting in Miami Beach right now and I’m looking at the situation and I’m thinking, ‘What would I do if I was there?'”

When asked whether Palestinians should have their own state, Kushner responded that this would be a “very bad idea” because it would essentially “reward an act of terror.”
