Money transport company stolen – then on the run for years: million dollar thief turns himself in to the police

She packaged money and delivered it to the banks: that was the job of Yasemin G.*(31). She worked for a cash transport company in the German city of Bremen.

But on May 21, 2021, she couldn’t resist the temptation. The German-Turkish woman took several security bags full of money and hid them in a moving waste container. She then called in sick and disappeared – and with her 8 million euros (7.7 million francs).

License plates were stolen

Yasemin G. has now turned himself in to the police, various media in Germany report. The millionaire thief was wanted internationally. The researchers recently published a mugshot and a photo of the type of wheelie bin used and the suspected getaway car. It is still unclear how Yasemin G. was able to go into hiding for so long and what happened to the money.

According to previous findings, G. had loaded the loot into a black Mercedes Vito. The license plates had previously been stolen in Bremen. The car itself was rented in Berlin-Spandau on May 19. He was later found in the courtyard of the car rental company.

‘We all thought she wasn’t that smart’

G. grew up in the problem neighborhood of Tenever in Bremen. She lived with her mother and her younger sister until the end. Her father, who lives separately from the family, is said to have introduced her to the money transport business. He is said to have worked there as a driver and as a delivery person.

An old school friend told ‘Bild’ in 2021: ‘We all thought she wasn’t that smart, but she taught us otherwise.’ Another acquaintance explains that she “always wanted to party” and “attached a lot of importance to her appearance.” (ymh)
