The opposing side is also considering postponing Trump’s hush money lawsuit Sonderburg: Danish coastal town allows seagulls to be shot

About two weeks before the planned start of a criminal trial against former American President Donald Trump in connection with hush money payments to a porn star, the Public Prosecution Service now also sees reasons for a postponement.

While they are willing to start the trial as scheduled on March 25, they are not opposed to a “short delay of no more than 30 days,” Manhattan prosecutor Alvin Bragg wrote to Judge Juan Merchan on Thursday. The reason for this is newly arrived documents with more than 70,000 pages that are relevant to the trial and have yet to be examined.

Just a few days ago, Trump’s lawyers asked for a delay in the start of the trial. The legal team wrote to the judge on Monday that we must first wait to see how the US Supreme Court decides on the ex-president’s possible immunity from prosecution. The Supreme Court accepted Trump’s appeal on the issue of possible immunity in late February and scheduled a hearing in late April. The decision was a success for Trump, who wants to be re-elected president of the US in November and wants to postpone the many trials against him as much as possible.

Judge Merchan must now decide whether the trial should begin as scheduled on March 25 or be postponed – and if so, until what date. It was initially unclear when this decision would come. If it starts on March 25, it would be the first criminal trial of a former president in U.S. history. Three more criminal cases are being prepared and civil trials are also underway.

The background of the case in New York is mainly that Trump had $ 130,000 paid in hush money to porn actress Stormy Daniels shortly before his election as president. She claimed she had sex with him. Trump denies an affair, but does not deny that money flowed. Non-disclosure agreements between two parties are not illegal. However, Trump is accused of illegally recording the payments, attempting to illegally conceal them and thereby covering up other legal violations. The ex-president has pleaded not guilty.
