Man gets arrested in Norway and asks ChatGPT for advice – gets away with minibuses New rape allegations against director Polanski in US.

“I just got arrested for the first time in my life,” Richard Burton wrote on Twitter on Wednesday. He was allowed to use his smartphone to make calls, but instead asked ChatGPT for legal advice – and got away with a small fine.

Burton is a well-known man, especially in the crypto scene, and repeatedly writes articles about blockchain and artificial intelligence. Burton was arrested because police found psychoactive mushrooms in his luggage at Oslo airport. In his defense, he writes, “I think these mushrooms help with creativity and emotional lows.”

He tried the mushrooms that a friend of his had legally collected in a forest and forgot some in his backpack. He didn’t want to smuggle drugs, Burton said. When he was arrested, he briefly jumped out of his skin. “It really helped that I had access to clear, step-by-step instructions while only having a few minutes on the phone,” Burton writes.

The interaction on ChatGPT

How did Burton get his guidance? Screenshots show that he has already received such step-by-step instructions with a relatively simple statement: “I was arrested at Oslo airport for possession of psychoactive mushrooms. What should I know before I talk to the police?”

ChatGPT responded with a 7-point plan:

Particularly interesting: the chatbot advised Burton to show the police that he had the small amount of drugs for his own use. As in Switzerland, Norwegian laws regarding the possession of drugs for personal use are quite lenient. And so Burton got away with a small fine. (lion)
