The government of Venezuela reiterated this Tuesday that it will veto its airspace towards Argentina, until it compensates for the damage caused by the seizure of the aircraft of the state company Conviasa, which took place in Buenos Aires from June 2022 and was sent to the United States last February.
“No plane, coming from Argentina or moving towards it, will be able to fly over our territory, until our company is properly compensated for the damage caused, after the illegal actions carried out, just to satisfy their guardians in the north”, he expressed in X Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs Yván Gil.
The official reacted in this way to the statements of the spokesman of the Argentine President Manuel Adorni, who is at his usual press conference in the Casa Rosada (headquarters of the Government). He emphasized today that his country “will not allow itself to be extorted by the friends of terrorism.”
Gil believed that with these words the CEO of Javier Milei “intends to ignore the consequences of his acts of piracy and theft against Venezuela, which he repeatedly warned about before the criminal offense committed against Emtrasur”, the subsidiary of Convias to which the seized plane belonged.
“The neo-Nazi government of Argentina is not only submissive and obedient to its imperial master, but has a face-to-face spokesperson, Mr. Manuel Adorni,” the Venezuelan foreign minister added on the social network.
Buenos Aires today reported the start of “diplomatic actions against the government of Venezuela, led by dictator (President Nicolás) Madura” over the measure, including the possibility of filing a lawsuit with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). for “violation of the Convention on International Civil Aviation”, known as the Chicago Convention (1944).
lNews of the veto was announced by official Argentine sources, excluding Venezuela to decide on it until a few hours later, when the chancellor announced herself on a social network.
In the early morning hours of February 12, a cargo Boeing 747-300M Dreamliner, which was owned by the Iranian company Mahan Air and currently belonged to Conviasa – a company sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury – departed for the United States. in response to a forfeiture request.
Two weeks after the plane left Argentina, on February 29, Maduro condemned the United States for “a vile act, criminal, outrageous” of the “dismemberment” of the plane in Miami (Florida).
