Lufthansa expects 1,000 flights to be canceled: another strike is coming. Biden is pushing for higher taxes on the rich and corporations

Lufthansa and its passengers cannot relax. The next professional group’s strike will start next Tuesday.

The strike by Lufthansa flight attendants is forcing tens of thousands of passengers to reschedule their flights for this Tuesday and Wednesday (March 12 and 13). The airline assumed on Monday that a total of 1,000 flights in Frankfurt and Munich would be canceled on the two days: 600 in Frankfurt and 400 in Munich. According to a Lufthansa spokesperson, around 120,000 passengers will be affected: 70,000 in Frankfurt and 50,000 in Munich.

The cabin union UFO has called on a total of approximately 19,000 flight attendants from Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline to go on strike this weekend. All departures from Frankfurt will cease on Tuesday from 4am to 11pm and all departures from Munich on Wednesday, as UFO announced on Saturday evening. Flight attendants from the core company and its regional subsidiary Lufthansa Cityline had previously voted in favor of the strike in separate votes by more than 96 percent each.

UFO is demanding 15 percent more money for an 18-month contract term for the approximately 18,000 cabin crew of Lufthansa and the almost 1,000 employees of Cityline. The association also wants to realize an inflation compensation bonus of 3,000 euros and higher allowances.

For Lufthansa, this is just one of many current collective bargaining disputes: last week, ground crews, organized by the Verdi union, paralyzed much of Lufthansa’s passenger traffic in what is now their fifth wave of warning strikes.
