Investigators believe Samantha P.* was behind the wheel when her car rear-ended an Amish horse-drawn carriage on September 25, 2013 in Minnesota. Two children, Wilma Miller (7) and Irma Miller (11), were killed in the accident and two of their siblings (9 and 13) were injured. But it took police months to piece together the exact sequence of events and unravel the lie.
According to American media, Samantha did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance for her silver Toyota at the time. The 35-year-old was also said to have been under the influence of drugs. Her twin sister Sarah rushed to her aid – they switched places.
“Sarah arrived on scene shortly before one of our officers,” Sheriff John DeGeorge told local television stations. “That allowed the twins to tell us this story and mislead the investigation from then on.” They told officers that Sarah was driving and caused the accident.
However, in a recording from the accident scene, Sarah can be heard telling her sister that they “will never know the difference between us, so they can’t find out.”
Furthermore, a phone call from Samantha to her workplace after the incident would incriminate her. “I just killed two Amish people,” she allegedly said. A search on her cell phone with the words, “What happens if you crash an Amish car and two people die” was also reportedly discovered by investigators.
Samantha P. was charged with 21 counts, including negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. She is scheduled to appear in court on March 25. As ‘Fox News’ writes, Sarah must also answer for herself. Her trial starts on April 1. (dmo)
