“No apparent reason”: Man (38) attacks two people with a sword in a bistro

In Germany, two people were attacked by a 28-year-old with a Japanese sword.

In Neu-Ulm, Bavaria (D), a man seriously injured two people in a bistro with a Japanese longsword. As the Schwaben Süd/West police headquarters announced, the 28-year-old attacked two guests in the restaurant with a so-called katana sword shortly before midnight on Wednesday, seriously injuring one of them.

Investigators said the man acted “randomly” and had “no apparent reason” for his attack.

Psychological emergency

According to the police, based on the current state of the investigation, officers assume that the suspected perpetrator was in an exceptional psychological state. As investigators said, another guest overpowered the man and suffered a less serious cut. The attacker was later arrested by the police without resistance.

The suspected perpetrator was brought before a judge on Thursday, who issued an arrest warrant for him, police said. The man was therefore taken to a district hospital. (AFP)
