At first glance everything seems quite innocent: on February 27, a recipe for a fish dish will be shown in a cooking program on the Austrian broadcaster ORF. “Minced (fish) labern for Lent” is the name of the dish – it is presented on a black plate with a glass of white wine.
This week the show can be seen on television again on Tuesday. Presenter Claudia Schubert apologizes to the camera for the dish shown – because the sizzling fish is a so-called Frauennerfling. This is on the red list in Austria. This means: It is not allowed to be fished – and therefore of course not eaten. It was still unclear on Wednesday how the malfunction could have happened.
The female nerfling is a European carp fish. Numerous viewers recognized him in the SRF panel and complained. The broadcaster was therefore forced to apologize. Moderator Schubert admitted that fish in Austria are protected all year round.
“We had different information about this,” she said Tuesday evening. The program “Lower Austria Today” presents a recipe for cooking every Tuesday. (dabbing/sda/dpa)
