A high-voltage pylon burned down near the European Tesla production hall in Grünheide near Berlin. This led to a power outage at the car factory on Tuesday morning. As “Bild” reports, the fire was caused by arson.
The emergency services found a tent of eco-activists near the site of the fire. It had a warning sign: “Ammunition buried here!” According to the report, a bomb threat sounded. The Tesla factory was evacuated and is shut down until further notice.
About the possible cause of the fire, the police say: “We are investigating in all directions.”
As Tesla moves forward, all measures have been taken to secure its production facilities. After consultation with electricity supplier Edis, Tesla does not expect production to restart quickly.
According to police, the fire brigade was called to the fire in the Gossen-Neu Zittau district near Berlin around 5:15 a.m. and began extinguishing the fire. According to a spokesperson, the fire caused a power outage in the area. The high-voltage pylon is free-standing in a field. A police helicopter was also deployed in the morning after the alarm was raised about the fire.
The authorities initially did not comment on a possible link with protests around the Tesla factory site. Since Thursday, about 80 to 100 environmental activists have occupied a part of the national forest in Brandenburg near the Tesla factory, which Elon Musk’s company wants to vacate in case of expansion of its site. The activists have built ten meter-high tree houses and announced that they want to last as long as possible. The citizens’ initiative Grünheide also speaks out against Tesla’s expansion plans and shows solidarity with the occupiers. (no/SDA)
