Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization’s chief financial officer, has pleaded guilty to perjury. The 76-year-old admitted in court on Monday that he had lied as a witness in a trial that ended a few weeks ago, as US media consistently reported.
This means that Weisselberg will probably have to go to prison a second time. The verdict will be announced on April 10. According to reports, Weisselberg will not impeach former President Donald Trump.
Weisselberg, financial director of the real estate group for many years, was sentenced to five months in prison in 2022 for, among other things, tax fraud. According to American media, he spent about 100 days in the infamous Rikers Island prison in New York. He admitted at the time that he and other employees had systematically defrauded the tax authorities for years. Ex-President Trump’s complex real estate structure was also found guilty during the trial in December. Trump was not personally impeached. (sda/dpa)
