Zoologist and EX-CIA agent out there: this is the new crew of the ISS

Four astronauts headed to the International Space Station a day late this morning in SpaceX’s Falcon rocket. “Crew 8” was launched from the Kennedy Space Center and is expected to stay on the ISS for six months, AP reports. They are intended to replace the previous crew from the US, Denmark, Japan and Russia. She had worked at the station since August. Blick introduces you to the four new astronauts.

Matthew Dominick is from Wheat Ridge, Colorado. After graduating from D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School there, he received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of San Diego and his master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in California.

In 2007, he was commissioned as a naval aviator with the Fleet Strike Fighter Squadron. In 2017, NASA recruited him to attend astronaut school. In total, he has completed more than 1,600 flight hours in 28 aircraft, 400 aircraft carrier landings and 61 combat missions.

Michael Barratt was born on April 16, 1959 in Vancouver, Washington, USA. There he graduated from Camas High School and received his bachelor’s degree in zoology. In 1985, he received his master’s degree in medicine from Northwestern University in Illinois.

Barratt joined NASA in 1991 and quickly became a flight surgeon. In addition, he repeatedly conducted research into the health and performance risks of astronauts. In July 2000, he was named a mission specialist by NASA and began his training that same year.

Jeanette Epps is from Syracuse, New York, where she also graduated from Thomas J. Corcoran High School. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in physics from LeMoyne College and her master’s degree from the University of Maryland, where she later completed her doctorate in the philosophy of aerospace engineering.

She worked at times for the Ford Motor Company and later as an intelligence officer for the CIA. In July 2009, Epps became a member of NASA’s astronaut class. Their training included intensive training in International Space Station systems, robotics, flight training and wilderness survival training.

Alexander Grebenkin is a Russian cosmonaut who graduated from Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics in radio communications, radio and television. He then completed the military school in Irkutsk with a focus on technology, maintenance and repair of aircraft radio navigation systems.
