Becky Fanthorpe escaped death.

Becky Fanthorpe from the English city of Cambridge is a mother of three children and a personal trainer. The world seems fine. But then she gets Corona. After recovering from the infection, the 39-year-old first noticed pain in her hip in October 2023. Pain in the groin and back soon also occurred.

But her doctor sends her home without further examination. “He told me to take paracetamol,” Fanthorpe told the SWNS news agency at the start of her nightmare. “There is an increased risk of thrombosis in my family and I have previous illnesses,” but no one took that into account. This despite the fact that Corona can also lead to the formation of blood clots.

‘Doctors didn’t know if I would survive’

Days later, at home, Fanthorpe decides to call 911, who advises her to go to the hospital. “When I walked through the main entrance, it was like lightning shot through my whole body.” The triple mother collapses. Minutes later, she wakes up again in a hospital bed, her leg extremely swollen, caused by an infection resulting from blood clots blocking the arteries. “The doctors didn’t know if I would survive.” The clots reached her lungs.

But she succeeds and is released after two weeks. But she is not healthy. Fanthorpe feels weak and unwell and can still barely walk. Training is out of the question. She has to give up her passion. What happened didn’t just leave its mark physically. “Some days I feel really bad mentally. Sports have helped me. Now my leg swells again as soon as I take a few steps.”

To pursue her passion, she now writes on Instagram about topics related to healthy eating and shares cooking tips. “That’s where my heart beats right now, that’s where I find refuge,” Fanthorpe says. (dmo)
