Iran executes Mossad agents for attacking ammunition depots

Iran has executed one person following accusations of sabotage. As Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported on Sunday evening, the man was accused of an attack on a Defense Ministry facility last year.

Tasnim spoke about an agent of the Israeli foreign secret service Mossad. No further details have been released, including the identity of the person.

Attack on ammunition factory

At the end of January 2023, a Ministry of Defense ammunition factory near the metropolis of Isfahan was attacked with several small aircraft in Iran. At the time, Iran blamed the state of Israel for masterminding the attack. The Wall Street Journal reported at the time, citing people familiar with the operation, that Israel was behind the attacks.

At the end of January, the Iranian judiciary executed four Kurds in connection with the attack on the factory. The Norway-based human rights organization Hengaw accused the Islamic Republic of an unfair trial. The men’s confessions were extracted under torture.

Human rights activists have criticized the practice of the death penalty in Iran for decades. There are no official figures on executions. According to an annual report from Hengaw, 829 people were executed last year. (Mrs)
