Is the price rising now?: Russia wants to impose a ban on gasoline exports from Friday

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak explained the ban with the tense situation on the domestic market.

Russia has ordered a ban on gasoline exports due to rising demand in the country. The ban applies from Friday and lasts six months. This is reported by the AFP news agency.

“To compensate for the excessive demand for petroleum products, measures should be taken that will help stabilize prices on the domestic market,” Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told the RBC broadcaster.

A similar ban was introduced last year to prevent shortages and rising prices on the domestic market.

Is it about the presidential election?

This time the ban will last much longer. The country is believed to be looking to curb rising prices in the wake of the presidential elections in mid-March. At the same time, the ban creates time for infrastructure to recover and rebuild. Because: In recent months, individual refineries have suffered damage from Ukrainian drone attacks.

In 2023, Russia produced 44 million tons of gasoline, of which it exported about 5.76 million tons. The largest importers of Russian gasoline are mainly African countries, including Nigeria, Libya and Tunisia, as well as the United Arab Emirates. (An)
