Russian President Vladimir Putin (71) delivered his annual State of the Nation address on Thursday. Putin wrote the speech himself, as Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov (56) said beforehand. Putin spoke in particular about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – and threatened the West.

“Together we can do anything,” Putin emphasized at the start of his speech. He used terms like ‘New Russia’ and ‘special operation’. People from all parts of the country were sending money to the front, he claimed. He called the Russian soldiers in Ukraine “heroes” to whom the entire country bows. The defense of the country is “a pillar of Russian sovereignty.” “We will not allow anyone to interfere in our internal affairs,” Putin emphasized, ignoring the fact that Ukraine is a separate nation. Russia has an ‘all-conquering power’ and is constantly liberating new areas.

Accusations against the US

As part of the speech, a minute’s silence was held for the fallen Russian soldiers. Putin then emphasized that Russia was ready for dialogue with the US. At the same time, the United States attempted to inflict a strategic defeat on the battlefield on Russia. This is “hypocritical”. The fact that Russia is reportedly developing a nuclear weapon for space is “beyond bogus.”

Putin also referred to a statement by French President Emmanuel Macron (46), who spoke out in favor of sending NATO troops to Ukraine. There is now talk of sending NATO troops to Ukraine. Putin began part of his speech directly threatening the West. “We also have weapons with which we can attack targets on their territory,” the president emphasized. “We know what happened to the armies that attacked Russia,” Putin said, to applause. Such a move could “fuel the use of nuclear weapons.” “Everything the West comes up with to scare the world creates the real danger of conflict with the use of nuclear weapons, which means the destruction of civilization,” he added. The West has forgotten what war means.

He then accused the West of Russophobia. The Kremlin boss also confirmed the poor economic development in the G7 countries while praising the Brics states, which include Russia.
