Africa’s largest mosque solemnly inaugurated in Algeria Navalny was probably about to exchange prisoners with the Tiergarten killer

After years of delays, Africa’s largest mosque was solemnly inaugurated in the Algerian capital Algiers. As the presidential palace announced on Sunday evening, it is the third largest mosque in the world, after the two mosques in Mecca and Medina, Saudi Arabia.

According to the Algerian news agency APS, the minaret of the mosque is 265 meters high, making it the tallest minaret in the world.

The mosque was designed by the architectural firm KSP Engel from Frankfurt. The foundation stone of the mosque was laid in 2011 and the mosque was completed in 2020, according to the agency. However, in the wake of mass protests against the government, the mosque’s official inauguration was repeatedly postponed. The large prayer hall can accommodate approximately 35,000 worshipers.
