A footballer is looking for a new club – and resorts to unconventional methods Niederreiter and Fiala meet + Clear defeat for the “Swiss Devils”

German footballer Randy Gyamenah is looking for a new club – via social media platforms Instagram and TikTok. The striker could also imagine himself playing in a Swiss league.

“I am currently without a club and am looking for a new club” – football player Randy Gyamenah sent this message to the world a few days ago via an Instagram post. It seems like an unconventional method to look for a new employer. In the case of Gyamenah, who as a non-professional has a relatively large online following with more than 16,000 followers, this is not all that far-fetched.

Gyamenah came up with the idea when he announced on Instagram that he would be terminating his contract with his last club, FC Rot-Weiss Koblenz, at his own request. “The video was viewed about 400,000 times and I thought: great, a lot of people see that, maybe I can say that I am looking for a club.” According to Gyamenah, the video has been viewed one million times on Instagram and 1.6 million times on TikTok. Given this reach, even the sender himself was surprised: “I didn’t expect so many views,” the footballer tells Watson.

When your career doesn’t go according to plan

The German has been playing football since he was five years old. His dream of becoming a professional footballer took him from his boyhood club Norderstedt – a city directly bordering Hamburg – to the youth department of Hamburger SV and finally to the U19 of Erzgebirge Aue in the east of the Federal Republic. The trained central defender had now been retrained as a striker. The now 24-year-old was unable to make the jump to the first team, which was still playing in the 2nd Bundesliga at the time. He moved to Schalke and his last stop was FC Rot-Weiss Koblenz. Early this year, Gyamenah terminated his contract with the club, which brings us back to the Instagram post.

“When you notice that it’s going down rather than up, you naturally feel sad and worried,” Gyamenah says of his journey. Gyamenah has now found a calm way to deal with his shattered dream: “I can deal with it now and see things as they are. Everything comes as it should. And if it doesn’t work anymore, I have other options that I can use for myself.”

A club in Switzerland would also be an option for the striker

The post has now been commented on more than 1,000 times and users have many ideas about which club the German would suit up for. FC Luzern fans seem to be particularly fond of Gyamenah. The Super League club is mentioned several times. The Super League may be too ambitious, but Gyamenah can certainly imagine himself playing in Switzerland: “I think Switzerland is an interesting country, if a club there is interested in me, why not? I am still young and can gain experience.”

Gyamenah is aware that it will be difficult to make a living from football at the level he plays at. But for the man who juggles a lot of things, that’s not a problem at all. When he couldn’t play during the coronavirus pandemic, he worked as a pizza delivery boy and at a Covid testing center. Nowadays, in addition to training, he also devotes himself to modeling and his brand “Focused PLYRS”, with which he sells a training program for football players.

“Of course you want to make money somewhere, but that is not my priority. I just want to stay healthy and play football,” says Gyamenah when asked about his salary expectations at a possible new club.

Gyamenah wants to impress with his speed

And why would a club be interested in Gyamenah at all? «I am a very fast player, have a goal instinct and a great will. “I think that with my speed and my size I can be an asset to a team,” the 1.93 meter tall player summarizes his strengths.

Gyamenah says he has already received offers: “A lot of people have reached out, consultants, clubs, that surprised me.” No concrete offer has been made yet, but the striker hopes to be able to play for a club again in the summer. Until then, the striker is keeping fit at home in Hamburg with training including football matches with friends – the 24-year-old will soon be able to train with a top class team.
