At least five Palestinians were killed in an Israeli military operation in Nablus in the northern West Bank on Tuesday evening. About 20 other Palestinians were injured, some seriously, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. According to both sides, the target of the operation was an apartment that served as a shelter for a militant cell called “Lion’s Den”. Palestinian sources said the suspected leader of the armed group, a 31-year-old, was killed in the operation.

The Israeli army said the apartment also served as a storage facility for explosives. The soldiers detonated the explosives, the statement said. During the operation, there were clashes with dozens of Palestinians who burned tires and threw rocks at the troops. They returned fire after being fired upon by gunmen.

Israel blames the “Lion’s Den” group for the deadly attack on an Israeli soldier two weeks ago. She is also behind further attacks and a thwarted terrorist attack in Tel Aviv. She recently planned further attacks on Israeli civilians.

Two days ago, a member of the “Lion’s Den” was killed in a bomb explosion in Nablus. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry blamed Israel for the 33-year-old’s death.

The cell has been getting a lot of encouragement on social media lately. It mainly brought together young men from different armed factions in Nablus. The city is considered one of the strongholds of militant Palestinians.

The situation in the occupied West Bank has been tense for months. Since a wave of terror in Israel in the spring, the Israeli army has been conducting more raids there. About 130 Palestinians have already died this year in connection with military operations, clashes or their own attacks, according to the Ministry of Health.
