This is how the Democrats were able to ‘get rid of’ Biden. Navalny was martyred: don’t lose faith in his values

For an overwhelming majority of Americans, Joe Biden is too old for a second term. Can the Democrats still replace him? It would be an achievement, but possible.

When it comes to his age, Joe Biden likes to resort to self-irony. ‘It may not seem like it, but I’ve been here for a while. I still remember,” the 81-year-old US president said Monday at a conference in Washington, drawing laughter from the audience. Such comments can also be described as gallows humor.

Because age is increasingly becoming Biden’s greatest handicap. In a recent ABC News poll, a whopping 86 percent of respondents said the president was too old for a second term. Last September that was ‘only’ 74 percent. It doesn’t help him much that 59 percent thought Donald Trump had also passed his expiration date.

The discussion has become more urgent recently. A report by special counsel Robert Hur on the confidential documents found in Biden’s garage contributed to this. It describes the president as a “well-meaning older man with a bad memory.” He doesn’t even remember the year his son Beau died.

A senile Grandpa Simpson?

At least the last point was found offensive even by Biden critics. The president, who is very sensitive in family matters, reacted angrily – and at a media conference made the Egyptian head of state Abdel Fatah al Sisi president of Mexico. He had had similar failures before.

He confused French President Emmanuel Macron with François Mitterrand, who died almost thirty years ago. At moments like these, Joe Biden is reminiscent of the senile Grampa Simpson, with whom he has already been compared. In reality, he is supposed to be mentally fit, but he gets tired faster than before, and then mistakes like this happen.

Bad poll numbers

The office of American president is also not a source of youth. You age quickly in the White House unless your name is Donald Trump and you don’t have a hard work ethic. In addition, Biden’s wobbly gait, which his doctors say is due to a stiffening of the spine. In other words, Joe Biden actually looks old.

“Gnuush in the head”?

Moreover, polls are generally poor because Americans associate his economic policies more with more expensive food than with the many new jobs, cutting back industry with subsidies or repairing ailing infrastructure. Doubts are therefore growing among Democrats as to whether Biden can cope with Donald Trump.

Showdown in Chicago?

However, the president is firmly convinced that he can defeat his predecessor, just as he did four years ago. He has no serious challengers. Biden easily won the New Hampshire primary even though he wasn’t even on the ballot. He also won overwhelmingly in South Carolina. Is there another way to replace this?

Similar scenarios are circulating in Washington. The final nomination of the presidential candidate will take place at the Democratic Party convention from August 19 to 22 in Chicago. In the past, when there were no primaries in the modern sense of the word, the final selection always took place on this occasion.

Bad memories

There is little that can prevent a recurrence. Such a process would have the advantage of sparing Democrats a tough and expensive primary campaign. At the same time, Joe Biden may come to realize that the time may be right for his retirement. His family could have an important say in this.

Shortly before the party conference, Biden would announce his withdrawal and release the votes of his delegates. This scenario risks creating a bargaining situation in Chicago. Democrats have bad memories of the city because there were chaotic scenes at the 1968 nominating convention in Chicago.

Obama as kingmaker

However, Joe Biden and his former ‘boss’ Barack Obama would act before and behind the scenes as ‘kingmakers’ and ensure an orderly process, the ‘Spiegel’ speculates. Potential candidates are available even without the conspiracy theory spread in advance by Republicans Michelle Obama.

The former first lady has said far too often that she is not interested in returning to the White House as president. Vice President probably won’t be a problem either Kamala Harris even though she conspicuously tries to include herself in the conversation. She had too much bad luck in the 2020 election campaign and remained too ‘invisible’ in her office.

These names are mentioned

However, some younger Democrats are already waging ‘a kind of shadow election campaign’, according to ‘Spiegel’. They are mainly found in the states:

Each of these names could give the election campaign a new dynamic, especially against Donald Trump, who is also no longer ‘fresh’. And if the scenario comes true, he or she can lean on Biden’s campaign machine. This would be essential as there were only two and a half months to go until the presidential elections.

Such a strategy would certainly be a feat of strength. And it is far from certain that Joe Biden will resign. So far he has shown no signs of willingness in this direction. However, if Trump continues to move into increasingly extreme territory, even concerns about his age would not pose an obstacle to Biden’s re-election.
