The Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl winners parade ends in a bloody drama on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 PM local time. Suddenly shots are fired, fans rush to safety in panic and jump over barriers. Police troops storm into the station building with their weapons drawn.

Several people are shot by one or more gunmen. Mother-of-two Lisa L.* is dead, three other people are in critical condition. A total of 22 people were shot and injured, authorities said. Nine of them are children. The motive of the shooter or shooters is unclear.

Suspected perpetrators arrested

One video shows fans working together to overpower a suspect who tries to run away. One of the fans told CNN afterwards: “I heard someone shouting to stop this man. And it was coming right in our direction. I hit him from behind and his gun went flying. »

He threw him to the ground and pressed his entire body weight on him. “Another man helped me and a third party and we held him on the ground until the police arrived.”

Not far from this scene, police officers arrested a second suspect. Police officers lead away a man in a red hoodie, according to images from the AFP news agency. A total of three people are in custody in connection with the shooting.

Several parade participants are wheeled away on stretchers by paramedics and taken to nearby hospitals.

A million people at a parade in Kansas City

TV images show how the event site was cleared. Police said the shots were fired near the train station near a parking garage. It is unclear whether the crime is related to the victory parade.

The Kansas City Chiefs celebrated their fourth Super Bowl title during the big parade. As many as a million people gathered for the celebration. Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill, 28, asked his followers on X to join him in praying for the “victims of this heinous act.”
