Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.

In the US, a dozen alleged victims of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein have filed a lawsuit against the Federal Police FBI for inadequate investigations against the billionaire.

The 12 accusers, who have been anonymized in the court documents, accuse the FBI of failing to conduct adequate investigations and ignoring Epstein’s interest in underage girls.

“Clarify the role of the FBI”

“For more than two decades, the Federal Bureau of Investigation enabled Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking and sexual abuse of countless children and young women by failing to do the job the American people expected of him,” the lawsuit said. . The civil lawsuit should now “clarify once and for all the FBI’s role in Epstein’s sex trafficking.”

The twelve plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages. Her lawsuit follows the release last month of court documents identifying the identities of 150 to 180 people alleged to have had ties to Epstein and his former mistress Ghislaine Maxwell. Former US presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump are mentioned in the almost thousand pages of released documents, but are not accused of any wrongdoing in this context.

Messaging again and again – but no response

Epstein was once a powerful investor with ties to high-ranking figures in the United States and abroad. The US legal system eventually charged him with raping young women and girls, but he could not be brought to justice before his death in 2019. Authorities say the former businessman committed suicide in his New York jail cell.

The FBI lawsuit now filed is based on information that from 1996 to 2006, U.S. federal law enforcement repeatedly received reports, complaints and tips about sex crimes and human rights abuses by Epstein and his accomplices, but failed to adequately investigate them.

In 2005, Palm Beach police informed the FBI that a 14-year-old had been brought to Epstein’s estate for sex. However, the FBI did not launch an investigation until a year later, the lawsuit states. The FBI’s “gross negligence” led to “ongoing sexual abuse by Jeffrey Epstein” for the twelve plaintiffs. (AFP)
