Two dead: New video shows private jet crashing on highway

Truck driver Alfonso Del Nodal could hardly believe his eyes: a plane suddenly appeared in front of him, over the Interstate 75 highway, on Friday afternoon.

The private jet flies diagonally in the direction of travel on the highway, tries to make an emergency landing – and misses the road. The machine catches fire and a cloud of smoke rises. Everything is recorded by the driver’s dashcam.

A motorist told CNN that the plane ripped off the roof of a pickup truck and skidded nearly 30 feet before crashing into a concrete wall and bursting into flames. Drivers wanted to help at the scene of the accident, but were forced to flee due to an explosion.

Two people on board were killed in the Bombardier Challenger 600 plane crash. There were a total of five people on board, three of whom survived the emergency landing attempt.

Both engines failed

The plane, which took off from Ohio State, was actually planning to land at Naples Airport on the west coast of Florida. Two minutes before the scheduled landing, the pilot reported to air traffic controllers that both engines had failed and requested permission to make an emergency landing, according to airport spokesman Robin King.

The pilot then stated that he would not make the runway – “and attempted to land on I-75.”

Houses nearby caught fire

Three people aboard the plane survived the emergency landing, and two others died when the plane struck, police said. Local media showed videos of the private jet bursting into flames on the side of the highway and thick black smoke.

Several nearby houses caught fire. It was initially unclear whether the plane also hit cars. Authorities began investigating. (neo/SDA)
