After several missteps by Biden: US Vice President Kamala Harris (59) is ‘ready to serve’

Kamala Harris is “ready to serve,” she revealed in a recent interview.

The age of US President Joe Biden is currently causing a stir around the world. The 81-year-old has repeatedly drawn attention to himself lately with mistakes and missteps. For example, he confused the incumbent French president Emmanuel Macron (46) with the ex-president François Mitterrand (1916-1996), who died in 1996. In a speech seeking to dispel doubts about his mental state, he named Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi as Mexico’s head of state.

Now US Vice President Kamala Harris (59) appears to be interfering, according to an interview with the Wall Street Journal during a campaign event. “I am ready to serve. There is no doubt about that,” the 59-year-old said when asked how she can convince voters that she is fit for office. She made these statements just two days before a special adviser’s report on Biden’s handling of classified documents was published. The report raises concerns about the 81-year-old’s mental capacity.

In the report, researcher Robert Hur describes Biden as an “older man with a poor memory.” Biden fired back at a tense news conference on Thursday, defending his memory and mental fitness for the Oval Office. Harris, on the other hand, emphasized her leadership skills and willingness to work in her interview with the Wall Street Journal.

“This moment has now come”

“It was always clear that Harris would be heavily scrutinized and pressured during the 2024 campaign, and that moment has now come,” said Jennifer Palmieri, who worked in the Obama and Clinton administrations and for the Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign worked. “I think the special counsel’s report has accelerated this moment a little bit.” Harris has said in the past that she is “ready to be president if necessary.” However, she dismissed negative comments about Biden’s health several times, saying the attacks on the president were “politically motivated.”

In recent months, Harris has taken on more and more public responsibilities. She became the administration’s top ambassador on abortion rights and was put in charge of the new White House Office on Gun Violence Prevention. She also spoke several times to the media about the war in Gaza. “I understand. “I understand why people are protesting,” Harris said in the interview. “We are working around the clock to end this conflict.”

However, there are no serious considerations for replacing Biden in this year’s presidential nomination, Democratic representatives say, pointing to primary registration deadlines that have already passed. In the unlikely event that Biden withdraws as the Democratic nominee, Harris would still need to win the necessary delegates to take his seat at the party’s convention in August. (An)
