The new prime minister and his rich wife: who is Akshata Murthy? Kremlin goes to UN Security Council with nuclear accusations +++ US politicians want negotiations

Britain has a new prime minister in Rishi Sunak. Not only is he the country’s youngest prime minister to date, his wife is also doing something new.
An article by

He was not elected by the people, and yet Rishi Sunak is the new Prime Minister of Great Britain. After the resignation of Liz Truss, the Conservative Brexit supporter moves to the head of the British government. The 42-year-old also benefits from his predecessor Boris Johnson, who withdrew his candidacy outright. Now, after about 40 days of Truss’ tenure, the moving boxes are ready at 10 Downing Street.

And there should be many. Because with Sunak, a man accustomed to luxury moves to the official residence in the London government district. Although the son of an Indian-Pakistani immigrant family presents himself as a working-class climber, that’s only half the truth. It’s true: his parents came to Southampton in the 1960s, where his mother was a pharmacist and his father worked as a doctor. But Sunak attended an elite boarding school as a student and boasted as a young man in his early twenties with his upper-class friends.

Sunak and his wife have a net worth of CHF 830 million

He studied at the elite universities of Oxford and Stanford, USA. There he met his current wife, Akshata Murthy. In 2009, the couple married 1,000 guests in a two-day ceremony in Murthy’s Indian hometown of Bengaluru. Her two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka, were last seen with their parents in public campaign appearances in late July this year.

The family of four is one of the 250 richest Britons in Britain – ranked 222. Together with his wife, the former investment banker is said to have a net worth of the equivalent of around 830 million francs. However, much of the wealth does not come from Rishi Sunak, but from his wife.

British media agree that Akshata Murthy is the richest First Lady to ever move to Downing Street. In fact, with her wealth she even exceeded the financial resources of the new king Charles III. The main reason for this is Murthy’s father.

The 42-year-old is the daughter of Indian billionaire NR Narayana Murthy, often referred to as the “Bill Gates of India” for making huge fortunes from the software company Infosys. Today, Murthy is one of the richest Indians with assets of over $1.87 billion, his company employs 228,000 people and has revenues of over $11.9 billion – and his daughter would hold a 0.91 percent stake. have in Infosys Keep.

The graduate economist also runs her own fashion label and is the boss of a venture capital firm founded by her father in 2010. LinkedIn lists her as a director of capital and private equity firm Catamaran Ventures, gym chain Digme Fitness and menswear retailer New & Lingwood.

So it’s no wonder her tax settlement in the summer of this year was deemed outrageous. It turned out that Akshata Murthy had been avoiding millions of dollars in taxes for years because she was not officially registered in the UK.

Four luxury homes and trendy garden parties

In the future, she wanted to pay British taxes, she assured after the scandal broke. The family’s prosperity seems to be no secret. “The couple’s garden parties are among the hottest in town,” writes The Guardian, for example, adding, “They’re known for serving roast game, canapés and champagne.”

According to reports, Sunak and his wife own four properties. These include a Grade II listed mansion in the village of Kirby Sigston, in the Sunak district of Richmond, which was bought in 2015 for €1.7 million, according to the Guardian. Also included is a five bedroom townhouse in London luxury Kensington.

The property portfolio is complemented by an apartment in South Kensington and a penthouse apartment overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica, California. So now to the next address: 10 Downing Street – and with it the question of whether Rishi Sunak will linger longer than his predecessor’s 44 days at this historic site reserved for British Prime Ministers since 1735.
