It was a shock when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (52) announced via Instagram last August that he and his wife Sophie (48) were splitting up after 18 years of marriage. Many Canadians were surprised, as the two were considered an absolute glamor couple!
Trudeau’s Instagram post sought in vain for a concrete reason for the divorce, but the prime minister assured that he and his wife parted on good terms. This harmonious appearance is now likely to be clouded. Because: According to the Canadian newspaper ‘National Post’, the First Lady reportedly entered into a romantic relationship with another man before the official divorce.
Sophie Trudeau’s new addition is apparently Canadian pediatrician Marcos Bettolli (48), who teaches at the University of Ottawa, among other things. The newspaper became aware of the affair through statements made by Bettolli’s ex-wife Ana Remonda (47) in the divorce case filed in April 2023. In it, she claims that Bettolli has “once again joined forces with a high-ranking individual who is attracting significant media attention and raising significant security concerns.”
Although Sophie Grégoire Trudeau’s name is not mentioned in the documents, it has been confirmed that she is the same person. So did the pediatrician actually deceive the Canadian Prime Minister? The Canadian First Lady’s alleged new partnership has not yet been officially confirmed. Bettolli’s ex-wife has also announced that she “will not take a position” on her former husband’s private life.
But Remonda did not remain so silent. For example, she said the new relationship had already raised safety concerns “that the children are exposed to while in the father’s care.” This prompted her to seek a court order to ensure the well-being and safety of her children.
“Ana assumed that the parties had made an agreement that the children would have no contact with the new partner, but Marcos did not comply, causing the children discomfort and fear,” the motion states, in part.
Not surprisingly, living in the Trudeaus’ orbit could prove to be a security risk. While the Prime Minister rode a wave of euphoria into the highest government office in 2015, criticism of him has increased enormously since his rigorous corona measures. Trudeau reportedly receives numerous threats every day and is often confronted with violent accusations from political opponents at events. (ced)
