An American porn actress is accused of conducting propaganda for the Iranian government. This after she posted photos on Instagram of a trip to Tehran – with photos of the closed US embassy.
The Iranian authorities in turn deny having anything to do with the visit of Whitney Wright (28). Tehran says the American was given a visa like any other foreign visitor. She’s a tourist. A spokesperson was quoted by the AFP news agency as saying they were not aware of their “obscene” profession.
The fact that the otherwise tolerant Wright is said to have moved freely in Iran, an arch enemy of the US and Israel, particularly angers the Iranians in exile. They accuse the Oklahoma porn star of flouting the struggle of Iranian women against the strict obligation to wear the hijab.
“The American porn star Whitney Wright is in Iran, my native country, where women are murdered just for showing their hair and being true to themselves,” prominent Iranian dissident Masih Alinedjad (47) wrote on X.
Alinejad, who lives in the US, mockingly suggested that Wright was also “completely covered” in the photos for once.
Femme Azadi, a group of exiled Iranian women in France, wrote on X: “Whitney Wright, an American porn star, was invited to Tehran to promote the Islamic Republic. They don’t shy away from anything.”
In one photo, Wright poses next to a flagpole with a torn American flag on the ground. A scene from the US Embassy in Tehran, which has been closed since the 1979-1981 hostage crisis and the severance of diplomatic ties between the US and Iran.
Wright wears a long, wrap-around headscarf, a pantsuit and a jacket. She strictly adheres to the current dress code for women – very different from the skimpy to non-existent clothing she is otherwise known for. In addition to a trip to the abandoned American embassy, she also shows exhibitions in a cultural museum.
When contacted, Tehran’s Foreign Ministry denied any knowledge of Wright’s trip. However, a spokesperson noted that despite the political tensions, Americans were “not prohibited” from visiting Iran. The Iranian visa system had “no knowledge of the nature of their immoral and obscene activities.”
Wright’s profession is classified as ‘obscene’ by Iranian authorities and could theoretically lead to criminal charges with a long prison sentence. Wright, who has now left Iran, does not want to hear criticism. She shows things, she wrote on Instagram, that would never be seen.
