Opponents condemn ‘anomalies’ in El Salvador’s elections

He reminded that electoral committees must be composed of citizens of civil society without belonging to any political party.

He also condemned that abroad, government personnel in consulates, set up as voting centers, “they put pressure on the electorate to vote for New Ideas.”

He pointed out that “the same thing is happening in the polling centers here in El Salvador, where people from Nuevas Ideas are encouraging Salvadorans to vote a certain way.”

For her part, the FMLN representative and candidate for Congress, Anabel Bellosohe also pointed out that the ruling New Idea party “imposed” its cadres at voting meetings in “complicity with the Supreme Electoral Court and the Prosecutor’s Office”.

“Such a beating is not possible,” the parliamentarian wrote on her profile on the X social network.

El Salvador is celebrating legislative and presidential elections this Sunday in which the country’s current president is elected Nayib Bukelehe is running for re-election for a second consecutive term, although the Constitution does not allow it.

Bukele (42) is the big favorite in these elections, in which five candidates from opposition parties are competing, among them Sands and from FMLNvirtually no chance of winning, polls show.

The politician is the first president of the democratic phase of El Salvador with the possibility of seeking immediate re-election and, if he wins, he would be the first to repeat the position.
