Russian President Vladimir Putin faces bankruptcy again. Drone footage at night shows the Russian rocket ship Ivanovets being attacked and sinking in the Black Sea. According to the Ukrainian Secret Service (GUR), the Ivanovets had been destroyed.

According to the GUR, several naval drones loaded with explosives flew towards the Russian warship and exploded there. The ship was fired upon five times. The Ivanovets were so damaged “as a result of a series of direct hits to the hull” that they were unable to maneuver and hit the stern. She then sank.

Colossus of 493 tons

The Iwanowets is a real colossus in the sea. The warship is 56 meters long and weighs 493 tons. It has several anti-ship missiles that can sink other ships. Some missiles have a range of four kilometers. There are four launch pads available for the crew.

The ship was put back into service at the end of 2021 after it had actually already been taken out of service. In July, the Ukrainian naval corvette Ternopi was sunk.

As the Ukrainian secret service announced, a search and rescue operation was unsuccessful. According to military blogger “VCHK-OGPU,” 32 members were evacuated and one person was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The cost is expected to be 60 to 70 million dollars (50 to 60 million francs).

Series of defeats on the Black Sea

With this attack, Ukraine scores another hit after sinking several ships in the Black Sea in recent months. In late December, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on a Tarantul-type patrol boat used to combat submarines. In November, the rocket ship Askold was destroyed. At the beginning of August, Ukraine reported the attack on the landing ship Olenegorski Gornjak – also with naval drones. In mid-September, the Rostov-on-Don submarine and the Minsk landing ship were destroyed.

Russia has not yet officially responded. But Russian military bloggers are fuming. Rybar writes on Telegram: “Considering how many ships of the Black Sea Fleet have already been lost to such attacks, one can only repeat: the main reason for this is human error on the part of those responsible, some of whom still think in exactly the same way as before the special military operation. »
