A toddler in Belgium is locked in a school bus for a whole day. The driver did not notice that the girl was still on the bus when he took the other children to school in the morning.
It was only when he set off on the bus again in the late afternoon that he noticed that the four-year-old child was still there. “She also told the driver that she still has to go to school,” Mayor Liefooghe van Alveringem told VRT.
The mayor calls it an exceptional situation and a wake-up call, also because nobody in the class missed the girl. According to him, the parents withdrew from a complaint after noticing how dissatisfied the driver was.
“The driver himself is a real child lover and sees that very much. He also visited his parents that same evening, crying. The parents don’t blame him. You know the incident happened by accident.”
The girl has lost none of her seven hours of solitude. “The most important thing is that the child is doing well,” said the mayor. “The next day she even told the driver to take her to school now.”
