About three months after a demonstration in London, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg (21) is on trial in the British capital. She arrived at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.
Together with other activists, she demonstrated in front of a hotel in mid-October against a meeting of energy managers. The indictment accuses Thunberg and her colleagues of disturbing public order. The activists had accused oil and gas companies of delaying the switch to renewable energy for their own profit.
Thunberg was temporarily arrested at the time because she and others allegedly refused to open a street and instead demonstrated on the sidewalk. Thunberg appeared at a hearing in London on the case in mid-November. She pleaded not guilty at the time. If convicted, she could be fined. On Thursday, some climate activists protested in front of the court. (SDA)
